Research Topics Thesis Statements

Topic 1: OCD

  1. “What is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and how does it affect a person?”
  2. “OCD is a violent brain/anxiety disorder that can debilitate a person’s daily life.”
  3. It is time-consuming, it is damaging (Physically/Mentally/Emotionally), Not talked about by sufferers”
  4. Refine
    1. I hold this position as I have personal experience with OCD, readers will learn what OCD is aside from stereotypes and see that it is very real and needs to be talked about.

Topic 2: Artificial Intelligence 

  1. “How will the advancements of Artificial Intelligence help us?”
  2. “AI will become a daily tool to help us work better.”
  3. “Just as platforms such as Napster and Netflix change the movie/entertainment industry by reducing the need to rent physical copies of movies/music, AI will remove a lot of redundant tasks and allow us to work more efficiently.”
  4. Refine
    • I hold this position as someone who has experienced the field of data science, readers will learn what kinds of tasks and uses AI can help with and see that the development of AI in our current timeline is analogous to the developments of the first Mac computers and touch screen phones. These advancements changed our lives completely and AI will do the same

Topic 3: Socioeconomics and School

  1. “How does family income affect the opportunities accessible to students?”
  2. “The wealth gap in America shows that students from wealthier families have access to resources that will make them more likely to be successful than students from low-income families:
  3. “Students from wealthier families are able to pay for things like private school, personal tutors, and specialized programs that offer a gateway to more opportunities whereas students from low-income families typically resort to cheaper options for school and are not able to pursue things as deeply due to financial reasons.”

    1. I hold this position as a low-income student who attended public school in a wealthy neighborhood, readers will learn how family income enables/excludes students to academic and career resources. Wealthier students typically become more successful than low income students due to a variety of factors surrounding wealth.

Topic 4: Procrastination 

  1. Why do we procrastinate and how can we manage it?
  2. Procrastination is caused by the avoidance of unwanted or unpleasant feelings associated with a certain task, it can be managed with simple tricks that utilize short time spans to start and complete a task.
  3. Negative feelings associated with a certain task can be overcome by facing them directly using techniques such as the 2 minute rule, “Eat the Frog”, and just starting the task.
  4. Refine
    1. I hold this position as someone who procrastinates often, readers will learn that procrastination does not equate to laziness and that negative thoughts and feelings associated with procrastination perpetuate the bad habit, these things can be overcome with self compassion and consistency. 

Topic 5: Warmth

  1. “Why does being warm cause us to get sleepy/tired?”
  2. “When you get warm, your body works harder to keep you cooler and stay at a stable temperature, thus making you tired.”
  3. Your body has a few ways reacting to heat such as Vasodilation to keep you cooler, dehydration which fatigues you, and psychologically your body associates warmth with comfort and safety.
  4. Refine
    1. Readers will learn the body’s different reactions to heat and how it can cause sleepiness, your body reacts against heat to keep you cool so it uses more of your energy, your human instincts also associate warmth with the feeling of being next to a fire so you feel safe to rest.
